THE fierce spirit of one-on-one basketball blazed brightly last Saturday as the Jordan Brand "The One" Manila Qualifier concluded at the Jordan Manila Flight Deck in BGC, Taguig City. After an intense day of competition featuring 12 boys and 12 girls from across the Philippines, two exceptional young athletes emerged victorious, earning the coveted title of "The One" and the honor of representing the Philippines on the global stage.
Built by a storied legacy. Built for the next generation of greatness.
Jordan Brand is unveiling the Air Jordan 40: a game shoe that’s uniquely designed for the modern game and to power the performance of today’s top playmakers.
As the latest addition to the most impactful franchise in the history of the game, the Air Jordan 40 is a barrier-breaking silhouette created for the next generation of greats — ushering in a new era of Jordan Brand basketball performance.
“This is an incredible moment for our brand as we define the next era of greatness alongside the next generation of hoopers,” says Sarah Mensah, President, Jordan Brand. “The Air Jordan 40 represents the future. Built for today’s player and the specifics of today’s game, it’s the beginning of a new chapter in our storied legacy.”
The Air Jordan 40 advances the era-defining franchise, debuted by Michael Jordan four decades ago, in a new performance silhouette that’s built for today’s athletes and the specifics of the modern game. That approach influences every aspect of the shoe, acknowledging past Air Jordan achievements while driving the next wave of on-court accomplishments.
The Air Jordan 40 brings forward the best NIKE, Inc. innovations in a silhouette that evolves Jordan Brand’s obsession with style and design, making the shoe both a force on the court and a fitting next chapter in the Jordan Brand legacy of greatness.
For the first time across NIKE, Inc., the Air Jordan 40 pairs full-length Nike ZoomX foam with a full Zoom Strobel, providing hoopers unparalleled responsiveness and explosive force with every movement.
ZoomX is NIKE, Inc.’s softest, lightest, and most responsive foam, which delivers athletes 85 percent energy return and powers some of the greatest performances in sport. The full-length Zoom Strobel places Nike’s most responsive cushioning directly underfoot to provide the propulsion required for explosive on-court movement.
Paired together, the two landmark innovations combine to create a first-of-its-kind ride for athletes, enabling powerful, fast movement alongside best-in-class support and recovery.
“This is the definitive performance basketball shoe on the market. For the first time, we’ve combined two landmark NIKE, Inc. innovations to create the Air Jordan of the future,” says Jason Mayden, Chief Design Officer, Jordan Brand. “And we wouldn’t be Jordan Brand if we weren’t also obsessing over the intersection of style and performance. This shoe helps you get buckets and looks good while doing it. It perfectly embodies the essence of effortless versatility.”
The Air Jordan 40 also features a premium construction that delivers elite levels of support and protection; webbing that enables 360-degree containment while offering a subtle nod to Michael Jordan’s six championships; and a unique traction pattern comprised of 40-degree angles designed to help hoopers start and stop on a dime.
Together, these innovations provide a comfortable, high-performance ride that's engineered to keep hoopers in the game and playing at their peak.
“I can’t wait to take the court in the Air Jordan 40 this season,” says Paolo Banchero, Jordan Brand athlete. “It’s truly a shoe built for today’s style of basketball, with the innovative edge that comes from being a member of the Jordan Family. That attention to performance will take my game to the next level as I continue to proudly represent the Jumpman, the ultimate symbol of greatness.”
The new silhouette carries forward the iconic design legacy of the Air Jordan lineage, referencing details from prior models in a striking new look. In an additional nod to the four-decade history of Air Jordan footwear, the silhouette’s logo is designed entirely of 40-degree angles — a theme mirrored on the herringbone traction pattern, which also calls to mind several of the franchise’s most iconic outsole designs.
The silhouette will take on nine unique colorways over the coming year, each featuring unique upper materials that advance the Air Jordan franchise into its fifth decade.
The Air Jordan 40 will be available July 12 at jordan.com and select retail locations.

Women’s Basketball fever is set to soar as the FIBA Asia Cup Trophy Tour makes its highly anticipated stop in the Philippines from June 16 to 18, 2025, bringing fans closer to the continent's most prestigious basketball prize and celebrating the growing legacy of women’s basketball in the country.
The trophy will be personally hand-carried by FIBA Asia’s Head of Communications, Magesh Saba.
The Philippine leg of the tour kicks off on June 16 with an exclusive press conference hosted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) at Buffalo’s Wings ‘N Things, located in the MAAX Building, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City. The event, which begins at 10:00 AM, is an invitation-only gathering where members of the media, the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team, and select guests will be in attendance. It will set the tone for a trophy tour that highlights not just basketball excellence, but also local pride and community roots.
On June 17, the trophy heads to the vibrant City of Malolos, Bulacan, the hometown of Gilas Pilipinas standout Jack Animam. A celebratory motorcade will weave through the streets of Malolos, passing through the City Hall and culminating at the historic Barasoain Church — a fitting tribute to both heritage and athletic pride. Fans can expect a festive atmosphere as the community comes together to honor their local basketball heroine and the honor of hosting the FIBA trophy.
The tour continues on June 18 with a showcase across key university campuses that have played a vital role in shaping the future of women’s basketball in the Philippines.
The tour will begin at De La Salle University (DLSU) along Taft Avenue, where they will display the trophy in front of the iconic St. La Salle Building. DLSU is the alma mater of Gilas sharpshooter Khate Castillo, a key contributor to the national team.
From there, the trophy heads to Jocson Street, home of the NU Lady Bulldogs, a powerhouse program that has won eight championships in the past decade. NU has been a cornerstone of Gilas Women's basketball, producing talents like Afril Bernardino, Jack Animam, Angel Surada, Stef Berbarabe, Cielo Pagdulagan, and Monique del Carmen.
The tour then moves to España, with a stop at the Arch of the Centuries in UST, where Gilas skipper Kent Pastrana continues to hone her competitive spirit.
Next is Blue Eagle Gym at Ateneo de Manila University, the home court of rising star Kacey Dela Rosa, one of the brightest young prospects in the Gilas lineup. SEA Games multi-medalist Katrina Guytingco also bleeds blue and white.
The final leg of the tour will bring the trophy to UP Diliman for display beside the iconic Oblation statue, thus acknowledging Camille Nolasco and Louna Ozar's proud representation of the maroon and green.
The three-day event is a celebration of the country's deep basketball culture and the powerful rise of women’s basketball, highlighting the contributions of homegrown stars who are making waves on the international stage. As the countdown to the FIBA Asia Cup continues, this tour aims to ignite excitement, encourage grassroots support, and honor the athletes who are inspiring a new generation.
